Live Sound

Straight after University, I landed myself a job as a sound engineer at Butlins in Skegness. It was a job that I enjoyed very much and was a new career in an industry that I had studied for at University.

I started as a Monitor Engineer and after a few months progressed to being Front of House engineer in the venue “Reds”. My role included mixing live bands, singers, shows, tribute acts, comedians, gameshows and even magicians! It was a varied job that allowed me to achieve lots of experience in mixing different styles of entertainment.

The sound desk installed in both Front of House and Monitors was an Allen and Heath ML5000, which, after using for 16 months, I now know how to use fully.

Other sound desks around the resort included Allen and Heath ML3000’s and ML4000’s as well as a Yamaha M7CL digital desk – all of which I understood and could use correctly.

Outboard gear installed in the venue included Shure Wireless recievers, Behringer Multigates and Multicom compressors, Tascam CD and Minidisc players, Yamaha SPX990 and REV500 multi-effects units and Klark Technik touchscreen graphic EQ’s. All of which I could use competantly and fully.

I left Butlins in Januray 2011 to relocate to Manchester and focus on my drumming career. Since living in Manchester, I still occasionally assist at events with Sphere Audio (based in Peterborough). I was Stage Manager and Technician at The Willow Festival, Peterborough May 2012.
